Copper & Specialty Metals
In the copper chain, process engineering and electrical engineering can't be treated as separate problems; solve only one, and you've only half-solved it.
In copper plants, many problems are neither purely process nor purely electrical; they sit right at the boundary between the two
Leaching and concentration have their own problem: recovering metal from low-grade ore and keeping the concentration process stable. Flash smelting has a different one: thermal efficiency, process stability against fluctuating concentrate quality, and managing off-gas, where sulfur dioxide becomes a byproduct feeding the acid plant to produce sulfuric acid. Copper refining needs its own precision and process stability to guarantee final purity.
What ties these stages together isn't just process; it's power distribution. That's why, at Alvand Technic, we design process engineering and electrical engineering together. A decision made in the process affects the power network design, and the other way around; in practice, these are one problem, not two separate projects.
In copper plants, process and power aren't two problems; they're one problem.
Where we create value
Integrated process and electrical design for leaching, flash smelting, refining, and hydrated lime units where process performance and power systems depend on each other.
Improving flash smelting efficiency Optimizing the smelting process, thermal equipment, and off-gas management (feeding the acid plant that produces sulfuric acid) for higher metal recovery and lower energy use.
Improving leaching and concentration efficiency Optimizing the process for higher metal recovery from low-grade ore.
Increasing material handling and charging capacity Designing charging, handling, and discharge equipment to reduce downtime.
Modernization and expansion without extended shutdowns Brownfield design and equipment replacement in operating units.
Design validation before fabrication CFD, FEA, and DEM analysis to reduce equipment and process design risk.
Data-driven decision-making Data integration, advanced control, and operational dashboards.
Critical spare parts supply Supplying wear parts for copper furnaces, including copper water-cooled panels.
Beyond copper, we also bring engineering knowledge to airtight thermal systems for melting and casting magnesium; its high reactivity calls for a different design approach than other metals.
Process areas we support Leaching and concentration, flash smelting, acid plant, copper refining, thermal and process equipment, material handling and charging, power distribution systems
