After decades of operation, repairs, and modifications, the real plant usually drifts away from its original drawings. A structure gets relocated, equipment gets added, a pipe route changes, and none of it ever makes it into the master drawings. That gap usually stays hidden until a development or modernization project begins; the first new piece of equipment brings it to the surface as clashes, rework, and delay.
The second problem is a different kind: a part breaks or wears out and its original drawing doesn't exist, or its lead time and cost no longer fit the plant's operational requirements. The usual fallback is going back to the original manufacturer, a path that both takes time and keeps the plant dependent on that same supplier indefinitely. Critical plant components shouldn't stay hostage to their original manufacturer.
3D scanning closes that gap with actual measurement, not guesswork or an outdated drawing. From there, two different paths open up. The first is brownfield design: new equipment is fitted onto a model of the real plant, and clashes with existing structure and utilities get caught before fabrication, not on site. The second is reverse engineering: we go from a worn surface to a buildable model that no longer depends on the original manufacturer.
Many companies can generate a 3D model. The real value shows up when that model becomes the basis for engineering and fabrication decisions. That gap, between a file and an actionable decision, is what we work on at Alvand Technic.
